Corso Biglietti Dinamici 3 / Workshop

A febbraio ripartono i miei corsi da Impronte d'Autore a Milano!

Qui potete vedere il calendario con le date di tutti i corsi proposti dal negozio e qui che cosa si fa.
Mi rendo conto che alcuni dei corsi sono difficili da intuire solo dalla descrizione o dalla foto, in particolare quelli che comprendono modelli in movimento, come i biglietti dinamici o pop-up.
Allora ho pensato di caricare dei piccoli video per mostrarvi i modelli che verranno realizzati nel corso di 'Biglietti Dinamici 3' dell'11 febbraio.
I campioni che ho preparato non sono necessariamente quelli che dovranno essere realizzati al corso: il modello può essere eseguito anche usando altri soggetti, altri colori o altri sfondi. Quello che resta uguale per tutti è il meccanismo di base.

Ma basta chiacchere e veniamo ai modelli!
Il primo è il 'biglietto dondolo', in cui il soggetto principale oscilla da una parte all'altra quando si muove la card a destra e a sinistra.

Il secondo modello è il 'biglietto rotella', che forse ricorderete in altri post, come questo con le pecorelle e questo con i folletti di Natale.
Il principio è sempre lo stesso: la particolarità di questo biglietto è la possibilità di cambiare il soggetto (o il messaggio) principale girando la rotella a lato.

Terzo modello è il 'biglietto spiedino', forse il più spettacolare tra i tre: aprendo il biglietto il soggetto all'interno ruota su un perno, mostrando le sue due facce.

Lettere da Varsavia/Letters from Varsavia

Oggi, nel Giorno della Memoria, voglio dedicare questo post ad una pubblicazione che raccoglie le storie della famiglia dell'autore, all'epoca ancora bambino.
Il libro, in forma di raccolta epistolare, si legge d'un fiato. E fin dalle prime righe si può sentire la viva voce dei protagonisti, dapprima serena e comune, poi via via sempre più drammatica, fino al triste epilogo.

This post is reserved to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and in particular to a book that collects the letters from a family of Warsaw. The author, who was still a child at the time of the war, publishes the letters sent by one of his relatives to his mother.
The book is so well written that it will be read in one breath. The voices of the protagonists, emerge from the letters vivid and intense, recreating and atmosphere that is quiet first, and that becomes more and more dramatic, until the sad ending.

Funghi fuori stagione/Unseasonal mushrooms

Dovete preparare una cena per amici con bambini?
Questi 'funghetti' vi faranno fare un figurone!

If you have families at dinner, these 'mushrooms' will suit your younger guests' appetites.

Non ricordo più dove li ho visti fare... forse in tv... ad ogni buon conto, ecco quello che vi occorre:

- uova di quaglia
- pomodorini ciliegini
- maionese in tubetto

I don't remember where I saw them first, maybe on tv... anyway, here's what you need:

- quail eggs

- cherry tomatoes
- maoynnaise in the tube

Il procedimento è facilissimo: vi basta lessare alcuni minuti le uova di quaglia e spelarle (questa è la parte più noiosa... ma non fatevi prendere dalla fretta, altrimenti le uova saranno tutte butterate e funghetti non faranno una bellissima scena, fidatevi).

The recipe is really easy: boil the eggs for a few minutes and peel them (this is the boring part, but don't hurry, otherwise the eggs will result pockmarked and the mushrooms will not seem really cute, trust me).

Poi con un coltello ben affilato eliminate una delle estremità arrotondate, in modo da far stare in piedi l'uovo.

Then cut off one of the ends from each egg such that the egg can stands on the table (one of Columbus' trick if I remember correctly).

Quindi tagliate in due metà i pomodorini e svuotateli dei semi e della polpa, quindi metteteli capovolti sulle uova.

Then cut the tomatoes in two halves leaving out all the seeds and the pulp, and set them upside down onto the eggs.

Ultimo passaggio è la decorazione dei cappelli con gli sbaffi di maionese.

Last step requires mayonnaise spots on the mushrooms hats.

Per completare il tutto, potete servire i funghetti su un prato di insalatina... però non ci contate troppo che i piccoli mangino anche quella!

To complete the decoration, put the mushrooms on a salad layer.... but don' think that children will eat it too!

La lana della pecora cornigliese mi è arrivata oggi!
Grazie a questo post sul blog di Yersinia (Maglialiberatutti), ho scoperto il progetto di salvaguardia di questo ovino.

The wool of Corniglio sheep has been delivered to me today!
Thanks to this post of Yersinia (Maglialiberatutti), I became aware of the project to save this rare sheep breed.

Così ho seguito le sue indicazioni e ho ricevuto gratuitamente 3 matasse di lana, per un totale di 250 gr. Ora ho tempo fino a marzo per realizzare un manufatto e spedirlo all'associazione, perchè possa far parte della mostra itinerante in tutta Italia.

By following the instructions, I received 3 skeins of wool (250 gr) for free. Now I have to make something with it and send it to the association before the end of March. My work will be part of a travelling exhibition throughout the all Country.

Tenete conto che la lana è piuttosto ruvida al tatto: sto meditando di sottoporla ad una bella lavata... però mi dispiacerebbe perdere il suo buonissimo profumo 'rustico'!

Si sa che il Natale arriva sempre troppo presto e ci coglie puntualmente impreparati... o almeno a me succede sempre così! E anche quest'anno ho consegnato da poco gli ultimi pachetti.
Eccoli qui, abbelliti giusto con qualche fustella, un paio di timbri e qualche perla.

Every year Christmas got me unprepared! As usual, this year I delivered the last gifts only a few days ago.
Here you can see the packets I made, embellished with some dies, a couple of stamps and some beads.

Un altro anno è passato... anche per l'ape ronzante, che oggi compie 2 anni!!

E come ogni inizio d'anno, è tempo di bilanci e buoni propositi.

Ogni famiglia ha un rito, il nostro è quello di inaugurare il nuovo calendario.

Che non significa solo scartarlo dalla confezione e appenderlo al muro.
Ma vuol dire anche segnare tutti i compleanni, le scadenze, gli appuntamenti fissi.

That doesn't mean that we merely unwrap it and hang it on the wall. On the contrary, we write down each birthday, deadline, and meeting we are aware of at the beginning of the year.

Nella frenesia dei preparativi natalizi, mi sono completamente dimenticata di mostrarvi il regalo per Anna, nuova arrivata nel mio gruppo di uncinetto! : )

Shaken by the frenzy of Christmas, I totally forgot to show you the gifts I made for Anna, the last entry in my crocheting group! : )

Per lei scarpine all'uncinetto con frontalino ricamato a punto croce su punto tunisino (che avete già visto qui in versione leggera di cotone)...

I made for her pair of crocheted booties, with cross stitched tunisian frontal part (the same you saw here in a light cotton version)...

... e il biglietto con la cicogna (timbro Aladine e sfondo con timbri Papertrey e Aladine)

Riciclo natalizio/Christmas recycling

Mio marito mi odia.
O meglio, per la maggior parte del tempo mi adora, ma il suo sguardo amorevole vira drasticamente verso quello di un serial killer quando mi sente dire 'ma no, non buttarlo! Potrebbe tornarci utile!'.
E il risultato è che casa nostra farebbe invidia a qualsiasi rigattiere.

My husband hates me.
Well, for the most part of time he adores me, but I see his lovley eyes changing into a serial killer's gaze whenever I say 'no, don't trow it away! It can be good one day!'
As a result, our house looks like a second-hand dealer shop.

E, come previsto, ecco che quest'anno sono tornati utilissimi gli scarti di feltro tagliati dalla fustella del fiocco di neve (vecchia fustella Sizzix) lo scorso Natale!
Del resto, con che cuore avrei potuto buttare questi piccoli rombi praticamente perfetti?

But, like I expected, the scraps of the felted snowflakes I cutted with an old Sizzix die last Christmas became really useful!
I could'nt trow away those cutie little and almost perfect rhombus !

Così li ho cuciti assieme a formare una stella a sei punte e ho fatto un giro di punto festone rosso tutto intorno.

So I sewed them together in a six-pointed star and I made a buttonhole stitch all around.

Poi col feltro ho fustellato alcuni omini di pan di zenzero, corredati di cuoricini in gomma crepla (altra fustella Sizzix), e mi sono attrezzata con pinze, anellini di metallo e punzone.

Then I cutted some red hearted gingerbread men (another Sizzix die), and I pick up some metal rings and a piercing punch.

Ed ecco che insieme alle stelle bianche sono diventati una ghirlanda Natalizia!

Stamping in fiera/Fair stamping

Si sa, in fiera si passa la maggior parte del tempo a dimostrare come utilizzare i più svariati prodotti, e anche quella che sembrava una banale fustella a 3 cuori della Big Shot si è rivelata utilissima per creare delle decorazioni natalizie.

Working at the fair gives you a lot of time to show the customers how you use the products you're selling, and after cutting a vast number of hearts I decided to use this 3 hearts Sizzix die to make Christmas decorations.

Per creare questo alberello vi occorrono 24 cuori, cioè 8 per ogni misura (grandi, medi e piccoli). Avere la fustella aiuta, ma volendo si possono benissimo tagliare a mano, magari impegnando i bambini a casa il 23 dicembre a creare i segnaposto per la tavola natalizia (io la butto lì... : )

To create this tree you need 24 hearts, 8 for each size (big, medium and small).
A hearts die would help, otherwise you can cut them by hand, maybe involving the kids at home on the 23 december to make the place card for the Christmas table (it's only a suggestion : )

L'abete è composto da 3 parti, ciascuna della quale è fatta da 8 cuori della stessa dimensione piegati a metà e poi incollati tra loro (questo post che ho pescato in rete dà un'idea del procedimento). Basta infilare le tre parti a testa in giù in ordine decrescente su uno spiedino di legno e incollare in cima una stellina, ed ecco l'alberello pronto da decorare con strass, glitter o altri ammennicoli.

The tree is made by 3 parts, each maden by 8 hearts (same size), folded in halves and glued together back-to-back (you can see this post I came across).
Then you must attach each part on a stick, upside down, in decreasing order and glue a star at the top and strass, or glitter, or whatever.

Potete usare lo stesso metodo per creare delle decorazioni per l'albero, usando cartoncini colorati e un nastro a tono con cui appenderle.

You can make Christmas decoration in the same way, adding a ribbon in the centre.

Anche questi biglietti sono frutto dell'improvvisazione coi nuovi timbri di Impronte d'Autore (li trovate qui) e della collaborazione con Annaelle (infiocchettatrice provetta : ).

Quest'ultimo invece è il mio biglietto preferito tra quelli che hanno partecipato al concorso 'Il 150° Buon Natale Italiano'.
E dire che non mi è mai venuto in mente di usare il nero per i biglietti di Natale... complimenti all'autore/autrice!

E anche questa edizione dell'Artigiano in Fiera milanese si è conclusa! Da qui il motivo della mia sparizione dal web per più di 10 giorni...

Finally I survived also to this 2011 edition of Artigiano in Fiera! This is why I have been away for more than 10 days...

Tempo per girare la fiera praticamente nullo...
This year I haven't got the time to visit the fair...

Tutt'al più qualche sbirciatina prima dell'apertura dei padiglioni, con gli stand ancora chiusi dietro i teli...

I could just peek through the curtains before the opening of the pavillions...

E dulcis in fundo (è proprio il caso di dirlo!), le deliziose creazioni delle cake designer de 'La Casa di Massy'.

And dulcis in fundo (I could not choose better words!) the delicious creations made by the cake designers of 'La Casa di Massy'.

Questa torta coi gattini è opera di Sarachan, 'aspirante pasticcera imprigionata nel corpo di un'ingegnera' (come lei stessa si definisce nel suo blog, ricco di foto, ricette, tutorial).

This kitten-cake was made by Sarachan, an aspiring cake-maker imprisoned into a engineer body (her own words taken from her blog, where you can find many pictures, recipes and tutorials).

E di queste torte floreali che ne dite? Meravigliose, vero? Non riuscirei mai a mangiarle!
Purtroppo non conosco il nome dell'autrice...

And what about this sugar bouquet? I could never eat those masterpieces!
Unfortunately I don't know the author's name...

Intagli golosi/Appetizing carving

Mentre ero nello stand a lavorare, ad un certo punto ho visto passare delle visitatrici con in mano un oggetto strano infilzato su uno spiedino... incuriosita, mi sono avvicinata ed ho visto un paio di occhietti di garofano che mi fissavano!

While I was working in my stand, I saw some visitors keeping something strange in the hand... I took a look and I saw a pair of clove eyes staring at me!

Non ho resistito e alla prima pausa sono andata alla ricerca dell'artista di questo topino-ravanello.
L'ho trovato ad un tavolo imbandito di meravigliosi ortaggi e frutti intagliati, come questo bellissimo melone bianco.

As soon it was possible, I looked for the carving artist of this little radish-mouse. I found him sitting at a prepared table with wonderful carved vegetables and friuts, like this beautiful white melon.

Le opere sono frutto (mai parola è stata più azzeccata!) del paziente lavoro degli artisti del Club Intagliatori Città di Modena.

The authors of those masterpieces are the members of Club Intagliatori Città di Modena.

E anche la fiera di Bologna si è conclusa, ultimo appuntamento della stagione dedicato al craft e agli hobby femminili.
Sarà che le associazioni in mostra erano tante, sarà che ho avuto un pochino di tempo in più per girare tra gli stand, ma devo dire che di cose interessanti ne ho viste parecchie.
E proprio per questo la fiera merita più di un post.
Difficile scegliere da quale argomento partire... Che ne dite del cucito?

Ho sempre detestato l'espressione 'del maiale non si butta via niente', ma devo ammettere che il paragone con questo simpatico animale da fattoria mi è venuto subito in mente quando mio marito ha deciso di cambiare lo zaino, che ormai cadeva a pezzi. Ma prima di arrivare nel cassonetto è passato dalle mie mani, che non hanno risparmiato nulla!
Ho asportato cinghie, ganci, cerniere, tasche, pezzi di tela... quello che ne restava poteva stare praticamente in un pungo di mano.
Vi chiederete cosa ne ho fatto di tutti i pezzi 'amputati'...

I have ever hated the italian expression 'nothing in a pig is discardable', but I must admit that the idiom popped up in my mind when my husband decided to throw his old backpack away.
I grabbed it before it reached the bin and I used every piece I could cut out!
After I tooked straps, hooks, zips, pockets, cloths, you could hold the remains in one hand.
If you are wondering what I made with all this stuff I 'amputated', well...

Un rettangolo di tela (resistente e con i bordi che non si sfilacciano) è diventato una toppa per i pantaloni.

A cloth rectangle (very strong and that doesn't fray easily) became a trouser patch.

Le cinghie hanno sostituito la maniglia rotta del box di Zeno.
The straps sosbstitued the broken handles in Zeno's playpen.

Ma il pezzo forte che mi ha dato più soddisfazioni è stata la serie di tasche e taschine che era all'interno dello zaino...

Perfetta per lavorare in fiera e riporre quelle cose che quando le si cerca non si trovano mai a portata di mano.

Ero lì che mi arrovellavo su cosa stampare quando mi è venuto in mente un set dell'Artemio acquistato in fiera e lasciato a bighellonare sulla mensola.

I was chewing over appopriate subjects, when a clear set with mice I bought some mounths ago, which was getting bored on the shelf since then, popped up in my mind.

Un cartoncino rosso embossato con la mascherina 'Floral Flourishes & Vines' (Sizzix) e cucito sulla prima pagina del biglietto e un nastro bianco completano il tutto.

I embossed the red cardstock with SIzzix 'Floral Flourishes & Vines'' folder and sewed it on the front of the card, then I added a white ribbon.

Non lasciatevi ingannare dalle apparenze... nonostante la semplicità questo biglietto richiede non poco tempo: solo per la cucitura ci ho messo 20 minuti! (non oso pensare quanto ci metta Mel Stampz a realizzare i suoi bellissimi biglietti...)

Don't be deceived by its simple look: this card takes some time: I spent 20 minutes only for the sewing! (I can not image how much time require the wonderful works of Mel Stampz...)

E oltretutto ho commesso una leggerezza: avrei potuto prima bordare il cartoncino rosso con la cucitura e poi attaccarlo al cartoncino bianco, così la cucitura non si sarebbe vista...

I made a little mistake, too: I should have made the sewing on the red cardstock and then glue it onto the white cards, in order to disguise the thread...

Cosa che ho fatto rimediando in questo biglietto-gemello in versione verde acido.
Non so decidere quale mi piaccia di più...

I did it in this card, an acid-green version of the mice card.

Per fare i sacchetti dell'asilo per Agata mi sono ispirata a questo suo sacchetto per il nido...

Ok, i piedi sono identici, lo ammetto! (ma quanto è difficile disegnare i piedi?!?).
Ho riciclato un vecchio lenzuolo di lino, usando il risvolto in alto per infilare il cordoncino.

Ok, the feet are identical, I admit it! (how difficult is feet drawing?!?).
I reclyed a shabby linen sheet, using the top to carry on the string.

(In realtà ho optato per un nastro a pois, molto più femminile : )
(That became a pois ribbon in the end; a feminine touch : )

Quindi bozzetto a matita, colore acrilico (non avevo quelli per stoffa e ad agosto in città era tutto chiuso!!), bordo col pennarello nero Fabrico, adatto per la stoffa.

Then I drew a sketch with the pencil, I coloured it with acrilics (I didn't have fabric colours, and every shop was close in august!), at least I did the black edge with Fabrico marker, perfect for fabric.

Agata con una bambola non s'è mai vista, così ho disegnato il suo inseparabile coniglietto di peluche MouMou. Ogni mattina mi chiede se può andare a scuola con lei ^___^

I never saw Agata with a doll, so I drew her with MouMou, the little bunny she adores.
Every morning she asks me if we can bring him to school with her ^___^

Il sacchetto per i bavaglini invece è ricamato a punto croce (vedi post precedente).
Anche in questo caso si tratta di un riciclo: un sacchetto per le scarpe...

The bib bag is cross crocheted (see last post), and this is a recycling, too: it was a shoe bag.

E dato che il simbolo di Agata è la coccinella, mi sembrava un motivo appropriato.

A quanto pare farà caldo ancora per un po'... perchè non sfruttare gli ultimi raggi estivi per essiccare i frutti dei nostri raccolti?
The hot days are here to stay, so it seems... why don't we make use of the last sunny rays to dry out some fruits?

Ecco un metodo rapidissimo per avere un contenitore dove lasciare all'aria i vostri prodotti al riparo dagli insetti.
A quick and good way to let your fruit take some air without being bothered by insects is making a container.

Basta prendere una vaschetta (se di gelato è ancora più piacevole il riciclo : )

All you need is a tub (an ice cream tub is better for the recycling : )

e asportare la parte centrale del coperchio, utilizzando un cutter.

You cut off the top of the cap, using a cutter.

Poi vi occorre un pezzetto di tulle che sia un po' più grande del coperchio (non ditemi che in casa non avete del tulle che vi avanza: non ci credo! ...ok, anche un pezzetto di zanzariera può andare).

Then you need a piece of tulle a little bit bigger than the cap (don't tell me that you haven't some tulle in the house: I can't belive that! ...ok, a piece of mosquito-net will be fine).

A questo punto il vostro mini-essiccatoio è pronto. Non occorre nastro adesivo o altro per fissare il tulle al bordo del coperchio: basterà tenderlo bene al momento della chiusura della vaschetta.

That's all! Your mini-dryer-box is ready! You don't need any tape or anything else to fix the tulle on the cap: just stretch it well when you close the tub cap.

Mettete all'interno un tovagliolo di carta e adagiate sopra il vostro frutto (nel mio caso il mio unico peperoncino rosso; ma vanno benissimo anche i semi degli ortaggi o dei fiori) e lasciate crogiolare al sole.

Put inside a paper napkin and the fruit or seed you need to dry (in my case is the only red hot chilli pepper grown on my balcony), and let it simmer in the sun.

Più facile che bere... pardon, che gustare un sorbetto, vero? : )

Sandali rinnovati/Sandals restyling

Arrivata l'estate ho rispolverato gli inseparabili sandali, ma il filo di nylon che legava le perline sul davanti continuava a punzecchiarmi il piede sinistro. Allora ho preso il coraggio a due mani e ho deciso di rivoluzionare l'aspetto dimesso di queste calzature.

In summer I can not live without my sandals. Unfortunately, the nylon that keeps the beads together on this pair has always been a pain for my left foot. Finally, I decided to do something for it, and to improve the poor aspect of my cozy sandals at the same time.

Via le perline e al loro posto un bel medaglione di polyshrink stampato!

I wanted to get rid of the beads and to put in a big stamped polyshrink medallion instead!

Prima ho tagliato i cerchi con le Spellbinders, poi con la bucatrice ho praticato 4 fori nei punti cardinali, in modo da poterli poi cucire al sandalo.

At first I cut the circles by Nestabilities, then I made 4 cardinal holes using a punch (to sew them on the font of the sandals).

A questo punto ho ridotto i due cerchi, scaldandoli molto con l'heat gun, quindi ho schiacciato sopra ben bene il timbro craquelé per lasciarne l'impronta in negativo sul polyshrink.

I shrinked the circles and heated them a lot with the gun, then I push the craquelé stamp on them to leave a negative print.

Tocco finale una bella spugnata coi tamponi Brilliance Pearlescent Lime, Pearlescent Purple e Pearlescent Sky Blue e un'altra scaldata (ma senza troppa insistenza) per fissare i colori.

The final touch was made by a bit of colour directly from the pad: Brilliance Pearlescent Lime, Pearlescent Purple and Pearlescent Sky Blue. In the end I needed a little heat to fix the colours.

E così è come se avessi dei sandali nuovi senza aver speso un soldo! : )

Un pesce fuor d'acqua/A fish out of water

Il post di oggi scommetto che sorprenderà molti di voi... in realtà ha sorpreso anche me, soprattutto quando ho aperto il regalo di compleanno di mio marito e ci ho trovato dentro il biglietto del concerto dei "Big 4".
(N.d.A.: i 'Big 4' sono 4 famosi gruppi metal: Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer e Metallica).
Il biglietto era uno solo.

This post will surprise most of you, I guess... in fact, I was surprised myself when, opening the birthday present my husband did to me, I faced a ticket for "The Big 4" (The Big 4" are 4 famous metal bands: Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica).
It was a single ticket.

A parte il fatto che è una vita che non vado ad un concerto (la maternità non aiuta), ma il fatto più significativo è che io più o meno sto al metal come mio marito all'uncinetto.
So che esiste, magari mi è anche capitato tra le mani, ma da qui a capirci qualcosa ne passa.

Dei Metallica adoro "Nothing else matters", che è forse il pezzo più melodico che hanno scritto, quindi ho detto tutto.
Il concerto è durato dalle 16.30 a mezzanotte, a sandwich tra un sole cocente sopra la testa e un asfalto arroventato sotto i piedi. Ma io mi sentivo come un pesce fuor d'acqua.
Nei momenti più critici confesso di aver desiderato di avere con me un po' di cotone e dell'uncinetto, ma fortunatamente nessuno dei presenti era dotato di poteri telepatici...
In compenso ho passato il tempo a imbottire la macchina fotografica di immagini e suoni a lei sconosciuti.

E volete sapere com'è andata a finire? Mi sono pure divertita.
Decisamente meglio il metal sul palco che dentro un cd.
Grazie Robi, il mio Ciceronte personale (mezzo Cicerone e mezzo Caronte).

Though I don't remember the last time I have been to a concert (maternity doesn't help), the thing is that I know of metal just like my husband knows of crocheting. Knowing that metal exists is one thing, and it occurred to me once or twice, understanding it's another one.

I love "'Nothing else matters" by Metallica, maybe the most melodic song they wrote...

The concert began at 4.30 pm and ended at midnight; we stood up pressed among a hot sun on our heads and a burning asphalt under our feet. But I felt like a fish out of water.
In the most critical moments, I confess, I desired a little bit of yarn and a crochet hook, but fortunately nobody of the fans had telepathic powers...
On the other side, I spent most of the time stuffing the camera with anusual pictures and sounds.

And guess what? I had fun. Metal is better on the stage than on the radio, definitely.

Purtroppo non sono riuscita a recuperare il cotone color salmone indispensabile per confezionare altri quadrati, così ho preso una decisione drastica: smembrare il lavoro e utilizzare i singoli elementi (ulteriormente ingranditi e bordati) per assemblare una copertina da lettino, che di certo uno dei due pargoli userebbe più a lungo della maglietta.

Non ho mai capito perchè, ma mio marito ha una predilezione per i pellicani.
Forse perchè sono uccelli maestosi e dallo sguardo intelligente, o forse perchè sono abili pescatori.
O semplicemente perchè sono animali buffi, col loro becco che può contenere Marlin, Dory e tutta l'acqua in cui nuotano : )
Fatto sta che quest'anno per il suo compleanno ho deciso di cambiare tecnica e di lasciare nel cassetto timbri e inchiostri per riprendere matite ed acquerelli (o meglio, pennarelli Impress).
Con l'aggiunta di qualche particolare con la penna bianca gel (Hybrid della Pentel), che per l'effetto guano è senza eguali!

I can't see why my husband likes pelikans so much.

Ho sempre invidiato chi ha una casa col giardino, soprattutto per la possibilità di allestire un piccolo orticello dove veder crescere le verdure e gli ortaggi che in genere cogliamo nel reparto fresco del supermercato. Così appena ho visto il balcone della nostra nuova casa, non ho resistito e l'ho riempito di vasi e fioriere (ben 10 mq a disposizione!).
Certo, non è proprio la stessa cosa, ma sono comunque soddisfazioni.

I've always envy owners of gardened house who can make a little vegetable corner and see plants and fruits growning. So when I saw the balcony in our new home, I could not resist and I overcrowded it with vases and flower pot holders (10 mq all for me! Yeah!).
I know it's not like having a garden, but I'm happy : )

Ad oggi siamo riusciti a mangiare 59 fragole...
So far we ate 59 strawberries...

Mia cognata e mio nipote sono da poco arrivati dall'Australia e hanno portato in dono ad Agata un libro illustrato da un autore locale: "At the beach" di Roland Harvey.

My sister in law and my nephew are just arrived in Italy from Australia bringing an illustrated book by an australian author as a gift for Agata. It's "At the beach" by Roland Harvey.

Non avrebbero potuto scegliere regalo più azzeccato! Mia figlia lo adora (e non solo lei!).
I disegni sono ricchissimi di particolari e i personaggi sono uno più buffo dell'altro.
E poi io ho un debole per l'acquerello...

Agata felt in love with this book (and she was not the only one)!
The book is very detailed and the characters are really funny.
And watercolour is my soft spot...

La scena che fa ridere di più Agata è lo squalo che morde le chiappe ad un turista...

Il testo è in inglese, ma a parlare per lo più sono le bellissime immagini.

The book is written in english, but pictures tell more than words.

E, come recita l'introduzione, è davvero un libro per tutte le età.

Quello di oggi è un biglietto classico, richiestomi per signore di una certa età.
Il timbro di Wiff of joy è perfetto per lo scopo, affiancato ai due timbri eleganti di Impronte d'Autore (lo sfondo a rombi e la scritta 'Auguri').

Today card is a classic dedicated to sophisticated ladies.
Together with two elagant stamps by Impronte d'Autore (the arlequin background and the sentiment), this birthday cake (Wiff of joy) is fit to the purpouse.

Mi piaceva l'idea di merlettare lo sfondo per la torta di compleanno, ma non avendo sottomano una fustella appropriata, mi sono attrezzata con quella scallop e una semplice bucatrice a buco singolo.

I liked the idea to lace up the cake background; lacking suitable dies, I turned to a scalloped die and a simple single hole punch.

Certo, l'operazione è certosina, sconsigliata per il lavoro in serie, ma per un biglietto singolo è un esercizio molto zen : )

know, it is a painstaking task, which I do not advise in case of a series of cards; for a single card, though, it is even a zen practice : )

La piacevole scoperta che ho fatto nel realizzare questo biglietto è che usando il tampone Impress per stampare la scritta sulla carta lucida, l'inchiostro non si è asciugato subito, com'è sua caratteristica per le carte porose, permettendomi così di usare la polvere trasparente. Come vedete, il risultato è un rilievo nitido e di un tono più chiaro del colore originario (ero partita dal Chocolate).

The pleasant surprise is that if you use the Impress pad on a non-porous surfice, it doesn't dry very fast, like it usually does; so, you have time to add the embossing powder. The clear powder gives me a precise relif, lighter than the original colour of the ink pad (I used Chocolate).

Ho scoperto l'acqua calda, direte voi? Beh, non si finisce mai di imparare!

You would think that I just discovered hot water, wouldn't you? Ok, I am happy to learn everyday!

Birthday cards are never enought, right? I don't know why, but pigs and mouse are my soft spot.

Il biglietto che vi mostro oggi ha per protagonista proprio Henry, il dolcissimo rattino di Whiff of Joy.

Il timbro per la tag invece è di Waltzing mouse, della serie spellbinders-compatibile (le fustelle che ho usato per tagliare la targhetta, per intenderci). Idem i pois di sfondo.

Se non avete mai provato a tralasciare una parte del disegno dalla fustellatura, vi assicuro che è semplicissimo.

Omitting a detail from the stamp is quite easy.

Vi basta ritagliare il pezzetto di cartoncino con su il soggetto,

quindi scontornare solo il particolare che non volete fustellare.

Crisi. E' quella in cui mi ha messo un'amica tedesca quando mi ha commissionato dei biglietti di condoglianze.
Oddio, mi son detta, e adesso che le faccio?
Allora ho fatto un giro in rete, dove ho trovato diversi esempi, ma o troppo lugubri o tutt'altro che funebri (a tal proposito, non vi venga in mente di dedicare un biglietto ad un anglosassone scrivendo 'with simpathy', perchè per loro ha tutt'altro significato! E' uno dei 'false friends' che traggono in inganno noi Italiani...).
Alla fine ho scelto un motivo semplice, adatto anche per un'occasione classica, come un matrimonio o il compleanno di un amico un po' austero...

Here it does mean somenthing good. It is a cheerful expression commonly used to end a friendly letter. It has nothing to do with mourning).
In the end, I chose a simple design, suitable also for classical occasions, like a wedding, or the birthday of an austere friend...

Ebbene... no, Franz, non è un modulo per una coperta! Però sul fatto che vada a comporsi con altri pezzi ci hai azzeccato.

Well... no, Franz, it is not a blanket component! But it's true that it is meant to join other pieces.

Si tratta molto banalmente della metà di un cuore, che ho scelto di realizzare per la festa della mamma. Non so bene a cosa serva, ma mi è piaciuto subito quando l'ho visto qui, su Mypicot (potete scaricarne il pdf).
Le istruzioni sono in inglese, ma trovate anche lo schema grafico, che è un linguaggio universale.

It simply is a half heart that I crocheted for Mother's day. I don't really know what it is good for, but I liked it at once when I saw it on Mypicot web site (from where you can download the pdf).
The instructions are in english, but you can easily find the grafic scheme as well.

In sintesi, si parte lavorando prima le strisce di ciascuna metà (i tentacoli della medusa, per intenderci), una di seguito all'altra. Quindi si procede lavorando il semicerchio a partire dalla metà delle strisce e agganciandolo a queste man mano ad ogni giro.

Una volta preparati due pezzi uguali (nel mio caso uno bianco ed uno beige), basta stirare le due 'meduse' e intrecciarne i tentacoli, fissando man mano le strisce con gli spilli.

Per bloccare il tutto non occorrono cuciture, ma un giro di maglia bassa lungo il perimetro ed uno finale coi pippiolini.
Il lavoro è veloce, la parte più fastidiosa è l'intreccio, ma se ci sono riuscita io, può farlo chiunque.

The project is easy, the annoying part is interlacing the pieces, but if I can make it, everyone can.

Ovviamente in duplice copia: uno per la mamma ed uno per la suocera : )

Di recentissima pubblicazione il volume di Cedrine Armani 'Crochet Tunisien vol.2' (ricorderete la mia precedente recensione del vol.1).
Ovviamente non potevo lasciarmelo scappare!

Recently published, Cedrine Armani 'Crochet Tunisien' second volume (maybe you can remember my vol.1 review) is a must!

Anche in questo libro la prima parte è dedicata alla spiegazione dei punti base e -novità- di altri 7 punti di maglia tunisina.
Cosa interessante, c'è anche la spiegazione della lavorazione in tondo, realizzabile grazie ad un uncinetto a due punte.

Like in the former volume, the first part is dedicate to stitch explanation: the simple tunisian stitch and - brand new! - 7 other tunisian stitches.
Interestingly, the author explains even rounded stitch, made by double crochet.

Ma veniamo ai modelli: come per il primo volume, alcuni sono originali ed altri sono variazioni sul tema. I 24 progetti comprendono: sciarpe, borsette, coprispalla, cappelli, sacchettini, pochette, guanti senza dita, cuscini, pantofoline, copriteiera, portachiavi e copriuova.

But let's deal with the models: like in the first volume, some are originals while others are a theme variation.
The 24 projects comprehend: scarves, bags, sippers, hats, purses, fingerless gloves, pillows, teapot covers, key holders and egg covers.

Ad eccezione della parte generale sui punti, le spiegazioni (in francese) non sono passo-a-passo, ma le foto sono tutte a colori.
Investimento modesto che vale le 62 pagine di questa pubblicazione.

Apart from the first general part, there are not step-by-step explanations (which are in French), but there are many coloured fotographs.
In the end, the 62 pages pubblication is definitely worth the modest selling price.

Nel mio immaginario quello dei 3 anni è da sempre un traguardo importante: molti giocattoli riportano la dicitura 'non adatto ai baimbini sotto i 36 mesi' e i miei genitori mi raccontano da una vita che 'a 3 anni sapevi già leggere i topolini!'
Beh, Agata non è cambiata molto dal giorno del suo terzo compleanno, non ha subito nessuna trasformazione magica, nè tantomeno ha imparato a leggere. Riconosce giusto la lettera A e i numeri, ma questo già da diversi mesi.
Però che ci crediate o no, da qualche giorno ha imparato a disegnare i visi e con i connotati al posto giusto! Forse sarà un risultato banale, ma si sa: ogni scarrafone...

I have always thought that the third year was a milestone: it is plenty of toys for over 36 months, and my parents go on saying that I learned to read comics at three.
Agata has not changed a lot from the day of her third birthday, no magical transformation occurred and she can only recognize the letter A and the numbers, as she has done for months.
But, belive it or not, a few days ago she started drawing faces with all the correct characteristics in the right place. Maybe this is trivial, but as we say in Italy, "Every mummy prizes her cockroach!" ^____^

A friend of mine asked for some greeting cards, and once I saw Daniela's blog I could not help experimenting... the wild slushing technique!

Solo che non avevo i cuscinetti Distress, allora ho usato i Kaleidacolor e i pennarelli Impress.

I don't have Distress pads, though, and I turned to Kaleidacolor and Impress.

L'effetto non è bello come il suo, ma mi accontento... Avrò di sicuro tempo per esercitarmi coi pasticci! : )

Avviate 50 catenelle e lavorate a maglia tunisina semplice per 60 maglie.

Otterrete così un rettangolo di 27 cm x 23 cm circa.

Stirate sia il lavoro all’uncinetto che il tessuto scelto per foderare l’interno.

Piegate e stirate i bordi del rettangolo di stoffa in misura per rivestire l’interno del lavoro.

Fold the fabric edges and iron them.

Cucite il tessuto sul lato a rovescio del lavoro.

Quindi preparate la tasca porta uncinetti con il cotone azzurro, sempre a maglia tunisina semplice: avviate 50 catenelle e lavorate per 20 maglie. Poi cucite la striscia ottenuta lungo un lato all’ interno del lavoro.

Sew the fabric on the reverse side of the tunisian work.

Then, make the hook pocket using the same cotton thread: cast on 50 chain stitches and work tunisian simple stitch for 20 rows. Sew this crocheted stripe on the internal lower edge of the crocheted rectangle.

Procedete distribuendo le cuciture verticali lungo tutta la tasca per creare i vani in cui riporre gli uncinetti, tenendo conto del diametro dei vostri strumenti di lavoro.

Sew the vertical line on the lower pocket, being sure the dimension suits your hooks.

Cucite una coppia di bottoni automatici sulla fodera interna su entrambi i lati nella parte superiore, in modo da creare una patelletta di chiusura.

To obtain an upper pocket, sew a couple of automatic buttons on the top of the lining.

In questo modo gli uncinetti rimarranno sempre ben fermi nel loro alloggiamento.

Cucite all’interno eventuali accessori: in questo caso ho applicato un piccolo moschetto per attaccare il pendente tagliafili.

Sew on the fabric all the accessories you need: in this case, I attach a little snap-hook for my thread cutter pendant.

Con lo stesso cotone azzurro preparate un cordoncino lungo circa 60 cm.

With the same cotton make a 60 cm long string.

Cucitelo ad un’estremità del portauncinetti.

Sew it on one edge of the crochet hook holder.

Una volta inseriti i vostri ferri del mestiere, abbottonate la patelletta superiore, arrotolate il portauncinetti e avvolgeteci attorno il cordoncino per chiuderlo.

E il gioco è fatto: i vostri preziosi uncinetti saranno sempre al loro posto!

Materiale occorrente (modello per un bimbo di 3-4 mesi; diametro della testa circa 40-42 cm)

- 45 gr di lana per ferri 3-3,5 nei colori: azzurro, giallo, viola, verde scuro, arancio, verde chiaro
- ferri n. 3
- uncinetto n. 2,5
- ago da lana
- pochi grammi di imbottitura sintetica

Materials required (for 3-4 months baby; head diameter 40-42 cm)

- 45 gr. of wool for 3-3,5 knitting needles in those colours: sky-blue, yellow, violet, dark green, orange, light green

- knitting needles #3

- crochet hook #2,5

- tapestry needle

- a few grams of fiberfill for stuffing

Punti impiegati

- con i ferri: maglia legaccio

- con l’uncinetto: catenella, maglia bassissima, maglia bassa, mezza maglia alta, punto gambero (facoltativo)

Stitches

- with knitting needles: garter stitch

- with crochet hook: chain stitch, slip stitch, double crochet, half treble crochet, treble crochet, left handed stitch.

Con i ferri e la lana azzurra avviate 82 maglie e lavorate a maglia legaccio per circa 4,5 cm.

Procedete con l’uncinetto alternando una riga a maglia bassa con una lavorata ripetendo questo schema: *2 mezze maglie alte, 1 catenella, saltare una maglia di base*.

Cast on 82 stitches using the sky- blue yarn and make garter stitch for 4,5 cm.

Then leave the knitting needles and keep the crochet hook; alternate 1 row on double crochet with 1 row at this way: *2 half treble crochet, 1 chain stitch, jump 1 base chain*.

Cambiate colore a piacimento ad ogni riga e lavorate in tutto 25 righe senza aumenti nè diminuzioni, ottenendo in questo modo un rettangolo.

Fee free to change colour at every row; make 25 rows without increasing or decreasing.

Nascondete tutti i fili tagliati e cucite i due lati più corti a rovescio.

Hide all the cut threads and sew on reverse the short edges.

Voltate il lavoro al dritto e cucite l’estremità superiore a croce, come mostrato nella foto in visione dall’alto.

Reverse the work on the right side and sew the top edge with a cross shape, like shown in the above image.

Preparate 4 palline in colori diversi da attaccare in cima al cappello, in questo modo:

1° giro: formate un anello e lavorate all’interno 4 maglie basse, chiudete con un punto bassissimo e tirate il filo per stringere l’anello

2° giro: lavorate 2 maglie basse in ogni maglia di base; chiudete il giro con una maglia bassissima (tot 8 maglie)

3° giro: distribuite 1 aumento ogni 2 maglie basse; chiudete il giro con una maglia bassissima (tot 12 maglie)

4° giro: a maglia bassa senza aumenti; chiudete il giro con una maglia bassissima (tot 12 maglie)

5° giro: distribuite una diminuzione ogni due maglie basse; chiudete il giro con una maglia bassissima (tot 9 maglie)

6° giro: imbottite col cotone sintetico e procedete lavorando a maglia bassa distribuendo una diminuzione una maglia sì ed una no, fino alla fine. Chiudete con una maglia bassissima e tagliate il filo lasciandolo un po’ lungo, in modo da poterlo usare per la cucitura sul cappello.

Make 4 balls of different colours for the top of the hat:

row 1: make 4 double crochets in a loop and close the row with a slip stitch

row 2: make 2 double crochets in every base stitch; close the row with a slip stitch (tot 8 stitches)

row 3: make 1 increase of 2 base stitches each; close the row with a slip stitch (tot 12 stitches)

row 4: double crochet without increasing; close the row with a slip stitch (tot 12 stitches)

row 5: make a decreasing of 2 double crochet each; close the row with a slip stitch (tot 9 stitches)

Row 6: stuff the ball with fiberfill and go on with double crochet making a decreasing 2 base stitches each until the end. Close the row with a slip stitch and cut the thread leaving it a little bit long, so you can use it to sew the ball on the hat.

Cucite le quattro palline sulle punte del cappello, nascondete tutti i fili tagliati, e completate il lavoro con un giro a punto gambero alla base del cappello con la lana gialla.

Attach the balls to the top of the hat, hide all the cut threads and, if you like, make a left handed stitch row on the base of the hat with the yellow yarn.

Così avrete un pizzico di arcobaleno anche nelle giornate di pioggia...

Immagino che qualcuno, oltre Cinzia, si starà chiedendo che fine abbia fatto la mia orchidea... Ve la ricordate, vero?
Era partita così ad inizio dicembre.

At the beginning of December, it was like that.

Poi dopo un mese era così.

One month later, it was like that.

E adesso? A dire il vero non capisco bene cosa stia accadendo... 4 boccioli sono irrimediabilmente avvizziti, mentre ne stanno spuntando di nuovi. Ne sboccerà qualcuno?

And now? I really don’t know what is going on... 4 buds are withered and some new are growing. Will any of them blossom?
